Full update in a bit.

Been holding out on my “last day of New York” entry until I got the images up.

Of course, since we’ve gotten back, I got sucked into Mario Sunshine, then the DSL started acting up. I’ve got to delve back into PacBell tech support. Once I get that worked up, then images. Then the full entry.

Waiting for Kinko’s

So we’ve been here in New York for a while now. There’s all sorts of things I’ve only heard about that I’m seeing first-hand. The Ed Sullivan Theater. Flocks of Taxicabs. People fighting over taxicabs. Flocks of pigeons. Lots and lots of Jewish people everywhere. That Brooklyn accent.

Then there’s the things that only happen when an anime con happens in New York. A guy dressed as Wolfwood from Trigun walking down the street in Times Square. That Brooklyn accent singing in Japanese at Karaoke.

Then there’s the other things. The hotel elevators that go so fast that your stomach lurches and your ears pop. Actual weather, not that namby-pamby weather we have in California.

So my job at newsletter has been pretty much as I expected. I’ve finally gotten to the point where I can compose the PageMaker file in conops, then generate a PDF and mail it to Kinko’s from the broadband in my room, then have them deliver it (if I’m lucky.. pick it up if I’m not).

Having a 28.8 dialup shared between all of these laptops is interesting… we can IRC and other low bandwidth things, at least.

New York, New York

Yesterday was a travel day in so many senses of the word… woke up at 8am, went and got a headphone splitting thing from Radio Shack, drove to ‘s place, and had her drop me and to the BART station, where we took it to the Oakland Airport. Sat at the airport for a while, watching DVDs and stuff, showed up not too long after we got there, and not too long after that.

One busy day…

So after losing (yes, not loosing) a day yesterday because of a migrane, I now have a crapload of work to do today because I’m heading off for AXNY tomorrow. I have to make sure that things happen while I’m gone, and get some certain things done because they are needed while I’m gone.

I’ve made a very long list of things to pack, and I know I’m forgetting something. I, of course, won’t remember it until I’m halfway to the airport. (And strangely enough, typing this made me remember three more things.)

Work work work… and I have to wake up early tomorrow on top of it all.

Adobe, Fonts, Hotels, and New York

If I have any way to sum up the last three days of my life, it is thusly.

I HATE FONTS.

On Monday and Tuesday, I basically wasted away my whole work day just trying to convert these two fonts from Mac to PC without using a utility that I had to pay for. The painful part was that I had managed to do it in the past, but forgot how. Tuesday afternoon I finally figured out how.

Then again, last night, I was doing some random testing of AXNY Newsletter stuffs, and it turns out that PageMaker 6.5 (for OS 9) does not like certain fonts on my computer. Illustrator 10 (For OS X) happens to work just fine, and I could always pass stuff through, but it would be a pain in the ass. So tonight I’m going to finish what I started and buy the PageMaker 7 upgrade at Fry’s. If that doesn’t fix my problem, I won’t be happy.

We finally figured out our rooming situation for the days we’ll be in New York that aren’t covered by staffing. We leave on Wednesday and return on Wednesday. If I planned it correctly, there should be an Amazon.com shipment on my desk at work when I return, and in that shipment will be Mario Sunshine. I seriously considered taking my GameCube with me and buying it there, but was convinced otherwise.

Am I Invisible?

This makes two days in a row now that, as I get to work in the morning, I’ve had someone I know get into an elevator and had the door shut in my face because they didn’t hold it for me.

Thanks a lot, guys.

*beep* Battery Low *beep*

I am now going on my 28th consecutive waking hour. Yes, I know people do more than that, but how many work two full work days within that?

I was sick and tired of tossing and turning until 4am every morning for the last two weeks. Rather than try to move my sleep clock backwards, I’m going forwards.

Now I just have to stay awake until bedtime.

Must.. keep… moving.
