Random thought.

I’ve been thinking about getting a new car longer than a lot of people buy a new car and then buy a another new one.

Okay so yeah… almost a month, huh? Oops. Let’s see if I can remember all of the things that have happened since then.

I just bought my plane tickets and membership for Dragon*con, after skipping last year. My return flight is on a 767, which will mark the first time in a very long time I’ll be flying in an airplane with two aisles.

I hit level 70 on Werehamster, just in time to get nerfed to all heck and back. I had respecced feral for leveling with the intention of going back to restoration when I was done questing, but it seems like the guild has needed me more as a tank than as a healer. (We only have one level 70 Warrior, but at least 2 Priests and 3 Druids if I remember correctly.) I’m still playing a bit more than usual, but I’m guessing the second honeymoon will wear off once I finish all the easy solo quests, possibly once I farm up an epic flying mount.

FFXI has taken a back seat for the moment, although I’m still logging in for HNMLS and Assault/Mission stuff. The recent update actually shows that Square Enix cares about gilselling, and the recent missions have been very entertaining.

Work is chugging along. I got my contract extended the final 3 months, but after that it’ll be one year and I’ll have to find a permanent position or move on. There’s the possibility of a budget investment into the group, so I could end up staying, but in a month or two I’m going to have to start looking around again possibly.

When I got back from Indiana, there was snow on the hills here in California. This isn’t unusual, it happens maybe once every season. But what was unusual is that it stayed there for a week. Of course, here we are three weeks later and it was hot enough that I had to start opening up windows in the house. (Not hot enough to warrant A/C yet, though.)

I hate it when I’m away from the computer and I have a thought and think “I should make an LJ post about this” but then forget about it.

The weather always goes so crazy whenever we’re here…

So, as the plane into Indianapolis is landing, the captain announced that the temperature was 4 degrees Fahrenheit, which caused me to “hah!” audibly, which turned at least one head. Yes, once again it’s freakishly cold here in Indiana when we’re here. (And once again the locals are all shaking their heads and saying “it’s not supposed to be this cold this time of year.”) This time, there was a bit more snow on the ground, and it was a bit more recent (it had just fallen two days prior) so everything was covered a blanket of white. My flight had been delayed two and a half hours out of Chicago, due to a weather mess in New York, so it was very late by the time I got in Thursday night. Hooray for losing an entire day to travel.

The funeral was on Friday, and I’ll probably talk about it later.

The weather report for the weekend kept changing. Before I left, it was supposed to get gradually warmer, with some rain as we left. This changed to light snow at night on Saturday and Sunday. Well, it’s noon on Saturday and it’s still snowing, and not very lightly.

That’s our rental car (which my brother just insisted he drive around the block for some reason). Most of that snow was the 14 inches that snowed earlier in the week, but the amount that’s covering the car is all new from last night. I brought almost everything I’d need for playing in the snow other than boots and pants. I considered bringing the pants, but didn’t, and I don’t own the boots.

So I’m here until Tuesday, hopefully we’re not snowed in the whole time, the forecast says we shouldn’t be, but knowing our luck…

So one of my grandmothers passed away on Thursday, and I wasn’t able to make it out to the funeral.

My other grandmother just passed away today.

Meh.

I guess it’s been a while, so obligatory post.

Nothing new with work. Jenny’s sister, the new roommate, is hardly ever around. Still don’t have a Wii. Waited a bit, then finally jumped into Burning Crusade, up to level 63 on my Druid. Finally got an epic mount (which is a necessary prerequisite for a flying mount and flight form as a druid).

Hmmm I had more to say but I guess it’s not really that important ’cause I don’t remember it.

Like I needed another computer…

So, this is a bit late, but I finally did it. I know I’ve been talking about it and getting mocked about it, but I finally got another computer up and running right next to my other computer.

The last bit I needed was a second monitor. Since the LCD I’d been using before was my old and non-standard SGI flat panel, I ran into a unique problem. The SGI’s always had weird issues with DVI input, but when I bought a new, inexpensive (yet slightly more powerful than the top-of-the-line card I had bought a few years ago) video card, it just refused to work properly at high resolutions. I was planning on just using an old monitor for the second computer, but since my primary monitor wasn’t working with my primary machine, it was time to upgrade.

I ended up getting a Gateway FPD2275W, because I wanted to get something widescreen that also took video in. This also had the added benefit of component in, in addition to the composite, S-Video, VGA and DVI. It’s very nice and does things like picture-in-picture and autoselecting inputs.

The other component I needed for the other computer was a hard drive, so when I was at Fry’s I also bought an inexpensive, small hard drive. But when I put it into the new computer (with the older motherboard), it refused to recognize it…

And this is where things start to go horribly wrong…

Cold and empty (house)

The low tonight here is 27 Fahrenheit, a.k.a. -2 Celsius, a.k.a. holy wow it’s cold outside.

And Leon finally moved out and Jenny’s wherever Jenny goes when she’s not here and so I’m here in the house alone and it’s cold out.

I have a support team? Who’s this admin who’s letting me know I changed my password? I have a password for my account? Which account? Perhaps I should send an email to admin@hamusutaa.com for some “customer service.”

I’m guessing I’m not going to be opening that attachment. I doubt it’s a password inside that ZIP.
