Basketball and other things

Okay, so stop me if I’m wrong here, but I find it a bit out of place to look out the window and see a bunch of co-workers playing basketball on their lunch break… shirts and skins.

Even scarier is when they actually have referees… with uniforms and whistles and everything.

Don’t these people have work to do?

In other news, I’m still recovering from this weekend… after the karaoke bar incident on Thursday, two parties on Saturday and another on Sunday, I’m pretty wiped out. I even had to pass on another party on Friday…

Once again, I need vacations from my vacations. I so cannot wait for the three day weekend. I think I’m deliberately not going to do anything… just sit around and do nothing, clean, laze around… etc.

What a wasted day.

The IS guy still isn’t here. I can’t get ahold of him via phone or email. It’s time to pull the next step in any corporate environment.

I’m gonna have my boss call his boss. That’ll light a fire under his rear.

(Man, at least he could have the decency to send an email to tell my why he hasn’t shown up all day)

IS Guy

So it’s 3:30, and the IS Guy isn’t here yet. He’s not answering his phone or responding to email, but I know he’s here today because he dropped of the machine this morning before I got here.

I’m afraid to leave my desk for the shortest amount of time, because I know he’ll show up when I’m gone.

I really have to go the bathroom.

One of those days

So I’m supposed to get my FreeBSD machine at work upgraded, but there seems to be some sort of disconnect between the IS guy and me. So here I am, spending almost half my day so far with my old machine off, waiting for him to show up and plug in the other computer that’s just sitting in my cube.

It’s about now that I realize how much I hated my job when I didn’t have the UNIX machine on my desk. It’s very difficult to do my job with only Windows NT to help me. Especially when I’m in the middle of doing mundane tasks and I click on a link in IE, and the entire OS crashes. Blue Screen of Death. Yay Microsoft.

Die Die Die Die Die.

Current odds are…

I have discovered that there is an informal betting pool going on here at work every morning as to when I’m going to arrive, and what t-shirt I’m going to be wearing.

I pondered coming in at 8 a.m. wearing a shirt and tie one morning just to throw them for a loop, but then I realized that would involve both waking up at 7 a.m. and wearing a shirt and tie.

Conspiracy!

Okay, I’m convinced. It seems that all of the cute Asian girls here at work all seem to know each other.

There has got to be some sort of conspiracy going on.

This requires more research. I may need binoculars…

Grass

I won’t even go into last night, let’s just sum it up by saying that RedHat Linux sucks.

So for the last few weeks, the lawn outside our window has been dying. Huge patches of green are turning brown. We think it’s because there must be something in the soil (the campus is built on top of a landfill, after all). So this morning I’m walking up to the building, and I hear a tapping on the window above me, and all my coworkers are frantically pointing to something… eventually I figure out they’re pointing to the grass, which is miraculously, and quite suddenly, green again. I get up to my cube, and they tell me that some guys were spraying something on the grass this morning and it was suddenly green. We then figured out what it was.

It was paint.

As far as we can figure, there’s a concert today in the afternoon, which they’re setting up for now, and they want to put up a good public face… and heaven forbid if you have dead grass on your lawn.

Ugh and other randomness

You can tell what kind of day it’s going to be by how many of the new emails you get in the morning get marked “to do”.

Today was 6, which is on the high side for me.

I got my Game Boy Advance in the mail… and probably won’t be able to play it for a few days.

I was up until 2:30am last night moving my Linux machine to the new place, now that we have working DSL (yay). Silly me, I tried to upgrade it at the same time, which created all sorts of lovely problems and I ended up going back to the old motherboard. So yes, it’s still a Pentium MMX 166. At least now it has more memory and more disk space… but damn, it’s slow.

I think the constant exposure to high levels of dust is giving me allergies or something… go figure. I need to finish moving.

Revenge of the IRS

Leave it to the IRS to mail something on April 17th and then say on it “return by April 9th.” The letter is even dated the 17th.

So the vending machines at work are starting to run out of soda… even the ones on the uninhabited floors. Just a random thing I noticed.
