How odd…

Apparently, I’m somebody. somebodies added me as a friend. It appears to just be a collection of all people with a Permanent Account. When I first looked, eideteker wasn’t in there, but now he is, so whoever’s doing it is doing it gradually. It’s a very odd thing to do.

There are 10 people in #conversatron on hamusutaa.com right now. (Of course, one is the logging bot.) For a non-college time, that’s fairly active.

[Edit: It would help if I spelled “somebodies” correctly. And made them a user, not a community.]

Beware: Fanboy Ranting Inside

I was going to write a whole entry over the weekend about stuff that I was angry about, but I’ve cooled down now. Perhaps it would have been good to get it down, but I did end up talking to people about it anyway. So there is no written record of it… HA!

<rant type=”fanboy”>
I just finished reading Sir Apropos of Nothing by Peter David. I know I’ve listed PAD as an interest since forever; I’ve been basing that fandom solely on his comics writing, I’ve never indulged in his novels (Star Trek or otherwise). Let’s just say that I’m glad I bought the sequel at the same time, because this book was one of the best I’d read in a while. I mean, I wanted to reach inside the pages and slap PAD across the face some times for the horrible puns and situations, and for genuinely just messing with the reader’s mind… it was a great time for all. And the third book in hardcover is sitting in my amazon shopping cart. And the Hulk and Daredevil movie novelizations (also written by him) are lying on my floor, waiting to be read. The new Larry Niven short story collection will wait, dang it!
</rant>

My parents are coming into town this weekend. They get to see my house, which will hopefully be clean[er than it is now] by then. If I can find the hammer, I can hang some of the pictures that need hanging. Unfortunately, I think the hammer is either in Washington D.C. or Redding at the moment… time to buy another one.

Flash Mobs

Yes, but with all this media coverage of flash mobs, do any of the articles explain the origin of the term “Flash Mob”? Nooooo…..

*sigh* C’mon, people, give Larry Niven his due!

(Okay, technically, he called them “Flash Crowds” but the idea remains the same.)

Someone fix the Internet…

The net is broken today, it seems…. keep losing connections to things.

I’ve pretty much gotten everything reinstalled on my laptop, I had to dig out some serial numbers from old emails in order to install some of the software, but for some reason Ur-Quan Masters refuses to run… sigh.

I’ve been hoarding Stepmania files (DDR simulator) ever since a port was released for OS X. It’s frustrating playing some of the songs that are off by a very slight amount, though. Then, last night, I discovered a setting called Auto-Sync. If you play with auto-sync on, it will automatically adjust BPM and offset as you play, based on how you hit the arrows, until it matches up exactly, then when you’re done, it saves the changes back out.

I dunno about everyone else, but I thought that was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Parking

Looking out the window at the parking structure, it appears that this company only has to hire about five more people and we’ll be completely out of parking. Almost every single space in the top floor (which people traditionally go to last, of course) is full.

We need to start moving people to the new buildings really soon.

I want to go stare out the window some more… it’s such a nice day out.

More power!

My poor little 40GB hard drive in my laptop was getting way too full. Because Apple didn’t go and release new Powerbooks, I was forced to take drastic measures and upgrade the internal drive. So, I bought at 80GB drive and an external FireWire case, transferred over all the files to the new drive, swapped it out, was forced to re-install OS X, and then it started right up.

There’s some weirdness with the settings, as it transferred over my user settings, but the system settings got reset to default when the OS was reinstalled. Also, a few aliases stopped working… but for the most part, everything is running smoothly. And the new drive is even a bit quieter… I wonder if the access speed is any higher… hmm…

Dinner

It appears that Round Table Pizza is the only restaurant open in this shopping center at this time on a Sunday. Pizza it is, then.

A long weekend, but only two days.

Friday night, bigdumbthing graced me with his presence at Friday Night Magic, then again on Saturday morning for the 10th Anniversary / Eighth Edition release. Somewhere within there, Chico flew in and did some grocery shopping, then went to a concert with ecafracs.

We had the send-off for Judy on Sunday (who’s going away to Japan for three years), and I didn’t do as much cleaning before the fact, and ended up doing too much of it at the last minute. (After the tournament on Sat., and early Sun. morning.) The party itself was entertaining, we crammed about 25 people at the highest point into my little townhouse. Alicia couldn’t make it up, so early on, we set up a one-way videoconference with my iSight, so she could watch and listen to the whole party. It ended up being on the whole time, and she was even paying attention to it most of the time. It was like having a disembodied person at the party. A few times, we even walked the laptop around and introduced her to people.

I got to introduce people to Happy Tree Friends, and caught a few of them by surprise… heh heh heh.

It was funny to watch people’s reactions to the Statue of Yoda, especially if it was after a while… it was just tucked away in the corner, looking very innocent.

I answered the question “how long did it take you to build that?” about five times over the course of they day, every time I took someone down to look at the Lego Star Destroyer.

desslok ended up coming home late and into the wrong airport, but he made it in time to have five of the six 5XL members in the same place at once.

The Past Haunts Me… The Future Baffles Me…

…And the Present is getting pretty dang belligerent.

For the past, I’ve been thinking quite a bit about high school, partly because of an email I got out of the blue from an old classmate, and partly by finding Brea people for the first time on Friendster. Yes, I know I keep going on and on about Friendster…

The future.. well, we’ll leave that one alone for now.

For the present, well… you know.. I’m not going to touch that one either.

On a side note: Due to the magic of MAME, I was finally able to finish the Willow arcade game. I’d never made it past the second level, but after shoveling in the equivalent of almost $50, I finally beat the dang thing. Hooray for me. My thumb hurt afterwards.

Heh heh heh.

I found Brea people in Friendster (ex- and otherwise). Well, a small group of them at least.

Heh.
